All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, has declared himself as the best candidate to defeat incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 2025.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the new APC State Secretariat in Awka on Sunday, Okonkwo emphasized his capability, experience, and vision to lead Anambra to greater heights. He further urged the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to adopt him as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the primaries.
Ganduje Pushes for Consensus Candidate
Recently, Ganduje had stated in a meeting with an APC support group, "Booth 2 Booth with Bola Tinubu," at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, that the APC would prefer a consensus candidate for the Anambra election rather than undergoing a costly and divisive primary election.
He also pledged to reward the Anambra APC chapter if they demonstrated unity by presenting a single candidate, thereby strengthening the party’s chances of winning the state election.
Okonkwo: "I Am APC’s Best Choice for Anambra"
Reacting to Ganduje’s remarks, Okonkwo maintained that he remains the most qualified to lead the APC to victory and bring about transformational leadership in Anambra State.
"If elected as governor, Anambra will experience unprecedented growth, peace, and development. My administration will be anchored on good governance, transparency, and service to the people—key principles of the APC’s vision for Nigeria," he stated.
He further pledged his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, promising to work closely with the federal government to ensure that Anambra State achieves sustainable progress that benefits all residents, irrespective of ethnic, regional, or political affiliations.
With the APC’s quest to unseat Governor Soludo, Okonkwo’s ambition sets the stage for an intense political battle as the party strategizes for a strong showing in the 2025 election.
