Anthony Joshua risks “losing all credibility” if his next fight is against Jake Paul, according to talkSPORT boxing pundits and Fight Night hosts Spencer Oliver and Gareth A Davies.
Paul recently called out Joshua on social media, questioning his “skill” and “chin.” In response, Joshua revealed on Instagram that they had a five-minute phone conversation, hinting at a potential bout by captioning his post with “2026.”
Joshua has not fought since his shocking defeat to Daniel Dubois in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium last September, a loss that derailed his hopes of reclaiming the heavyweight throne. He had planned a comeback fight against Tyson Fury, but the ‘Gypsy King’ announced his retirement, leaving Joshua without an opponent.
Oliver and Davies acknowledged that a fight with Paul would be highly lucrative but insisted Joshua should focus on more competitive matchups.
“One thing that Jake Paul does is draw huge numbers,” Oliver said on talkSPORT’s Fight Night. “There’s not a fighter that wouldn’t fight him because there’s huge money on the table—that’s a fact.
“But do we want to see it? No. I don’t think we could. Actually, let me rephrase that—I don’t think we should see it anytime soon.”
