Sokoto Govt Warns Against Harmful Traditional Treatments for Metal Poisoning
The Sokoto State Government has raised concerns over the use of unsafe traditional practices in treating metal poisoning, warning against harmful methods such as making incisions on patients’ stomachs.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Wurno, condemned the practice and urged affected individuals to seek proper medical care at hospitals instead. Speaking during the presentation of government-supplied drugs for metal poisoning treatment at Gener
al Hospital, Tureta, he emphasized the dangers of traditional treatments.

“The practice of making incisions on the stomach of patients suffering from metal poisoning must stop immediately. Instead, those showing symptoms should be rushed to hospitals for proper medical care,” he stated.

Represented by the Executive Director of the State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bello Attahiru, Wurno assured that the government would distribute essential drugs to all general hospitals treating metal poisoning cases.

Chairman of Tureta Local Government Council, Alhaji Aliyu Tureta, expressed gratitude for the timely provision of the drugs and pledged to ensure their proper used.
