Wike Denies Collapsing, Dismisses Health Rumours

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed social media rumours that he collapsed at an event last week.

Speaking on Thursday after inspecting four ongoing projects in the FCT, including the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Wike described the claims as false and politically motivated.

'I Did Not Collapse'

Addressing the reports, Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, said the rumours were fabricated by individuals trying to score cheap political points and divert attention from recent revelations made by former Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, about the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in spreading rumours. First of all, I’m a human being, not a ghost. If anyone collapses, it would be a human being, but unfortunately, I did not collapse.”

“Everybody will die one day; nobody will live forever. But it is only God who determines when one will die—not human beings. Some of those who said I would die, I can assure you, I will be the one writing their condolence letter.”

Public Appearance Dispels Concerns

Rumours had circulated widely on social media platform X, alleging that Wike collapsed at an event in Abuja last Friday and was immediately flown abroad for treatment.

However, two days later, Wike was seen in high spirits as he joined other dignitaries on a Sallah homage to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, further dismissing concerns about his health.

His media aide, Lere Olayinka, had earlier debunked the claims, insisting they were completely false.

Wike reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on President Tinubu’s mandate and continuing his work in the FCT.
