Kwara to Construct 15 New Schools, Targets Underserved Communities

The Kwara State Government has unveiled plans to build 15 new schools across the state—comprising 11 primary and four secondary schools—with special attention to underserved and nomadic communities.

Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Shehu Adaramaja, made the announcement during a progress briefing on Wednesday, highlighting developments between January and April.

Prof. Adaramaja said the initiative forms part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broader agenda to bridge educational gaps and expand access to quality learning, especially in remote areas.

“In alignment with our strategic education plan, 6,993 teachers and school administrators have been trained under the New Calhoun Creek programme to boost teaching standards,” he stated.

He also confirmed the payment of outstanding salaries to 1,033 newly recruited teachers, following a verification exercise, resolving months of delay since their appointment in February.

In collaboration with the Uganda Basic Education Foundation, construction has commenced on 37 classroom blocks and VIP toilets across 33 schools, further strengthening infrastructure.

Highlighting digital advancements, Adaramaja announced the establishment of a new E-Learning Centre in Adida, describing it as “a major leap in digital education” for the state.

He added that the state is also championing inclusive physical education through nomadic and mobile athletic competitions, affirming the administration’s commitment to leaving no child behind.
