The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has alerted the public to the existence of a fraudulent Facebook account falsely bearing the identity of its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, disclosed that the fake account is being used by scammers to spread misinformation, offer fake contracts, solicit assistance, and lure unsuspecting individuals with false promises of rewards.
“The Ministry completely dissociates itself from this act of impersonation and advises the public to disregard any communication from the fake account, which is not affiliated with any official government channel,” Ebienfa stated.
He further clarified that Ambassador Ahmed does not operate or own any social media account, and cautioned against interacting with individuals or entities behind the fraudulent page, describing them as deceptive and potentially harmful.
Ebienfa added that the Ministry is working in collaboration with security agencies and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to investigate and dismantle the fake account.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s dedication to transparency and integrity, he assured the public of its continued efforts to protect citizens from online fraud and impersonation.
