The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that its officers were assisting local police at the crash site on Old Shelbyville Road. “Some have been airlifted to nearby hospitals. This is an active scene,” the post stated, with a promise of further updates.
Images shared on social media showed the wreckage of a small white aircraft, its nose embedded in the grass and its tail section detached.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter. It reportedly crashed shortly after taking off from Tullahoma Regional Airport at approximately 12:45 p.m. local time (1745 GMT).
The FAA confirmed that 20 people were on board at the time of the crash and that an investigation is underway.
Local news outlets indicated the aircraft was being used for skydiving activities.
