SDGs: Foundation Awards N4.5m Scholarships to Indigent Undergraduates

The Funmike Empowerment Foundation has awarded N4.5 million in scholarships to 25 undergraduates from low-income and marginalised backgrounds, reinforcing its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education.

Speaking at the scholarship presentation event held on Friday in Lagos, the Foundation’s Founder and Executive Director, Oluwafunmike Salami, emphasised that education remains a critical tool to break cycles of poverty, combat ignorance, and drive national development.

“For us, SDG 4 is not just a development goal—it is a lifeline. Education is the master key that unlocks human potential, breaks poverty cycles, and builds thriving communities,” Salami said.

The 25 scholarship recipients, drawn from universities across Nigeria, received between N150,000 and N290,000 each. They were selected through a rigorous and competitive process based on academic excellence, resilience, and dedication to community service.

Salami stressed that the Foundation’s focus on SDG 4 is rooted in its belief in the power of education to transform individuals and entire communities. “Talent is universal, but opportunity is not. These scholarships aim to close that gap,” she noted. “By fully covering their tuition year after year, we ensure students can complete their degrees free from financial burden.”

She added that education empowers young people to improve their lives and contribute meaningfully to society, and that the Foundation would continue investing in the nation’s future through such initiatives.

Also speaking at the event, Co-Founder of Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), Adeola Azeez, commended Salami’s vision, leadership, and selflessness, praising her efforts in mobilising resources to uplift the lives of others at a young age.
