The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the closure of its 2024/2025 academic session application portal, effective Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to the Fund, the move marks the conclusion of the second full cycle of the scheme and will enable it to finalise pending applications as well as upkeep payments.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND released timelines for the next application cycle.
The statement disclosed that the portal will reopen in the second week of October 2025 for fresh applications into the 2025/2026 academic session and remain accessible until January 2026. Institutions were directed to promptly update students’ records on the Student Verification System (SVS) to enable eligible applicants to participate in the new cycle.
Institutions that are yet to begin a new academic session within the specified period were advised to inform NELFUND for necessary concessions.
The Fund also cautioned that all unverified applications for the 2024/2025 session will be automatically cancelled after October 8, 2025. Students affected are urged to ensure their schools complete the verification process before the deadline, or else reapply in the 2025/2026 session.
NELFUND further highlighted that some applications remain unapproved or unpaid due to institutions’ failure to complete the required verification. It assured that engagements with such institutions are ongoing, but warned that non-compliant schools will have their names published for transparency.
On upkeep allowances, NELFUND clarified that disbursements for the 2024/2025 academic session will continue until November 2025. However, students must reapply for the 2025/2026 session to maintain eligibility.
