Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice, security, and unity, announcing plans to recruit more than 1,000 youths into the state’s community security outfit, Operation Rainbow.
The governor made the pledge on Sunday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Jos, during the commencement of the 2025/2026 Legal Year. The service, attended by judicial officers, clergy, and legal practitioners, marked the formal opening of the judiciary’s calendar.
“The God who has kept us this far will sustain us for the days ahead,” Mutfwang said, describing the event as one of thanksgiving and renewal.
Reflecting on the judiciary’s challenges, he commended officers for their resilience despite limited resources and revealed that his administration had begun paying outstanding entitlements owed to retired judges.
“Though the process is ongoing, it has commenced and by God’s grace, it will be completed,” he assured.
On security, the governor disclosed that Operation Rainbow would soon be expanded. “By the grace of God, we will recruit over 1,000 youths who will be deployed to their communities as the first and last line of defense, complementing conventional security agencies,” he said, urging citizens to resist “those who profit from insecurity.”
Mutfwang also stressed unity among Christians, thanking the Catholic Bishop of Jos and the parish priest of St. Theresa’s for hosting the service. He pledged to govern with courage and transparency, declaring, “We have no other agenda than to make Plateau better than we met it.”
Delivering the homily, Very Rev. Fr. Paul Pam, parish priest of St. Theresa Catholic Church, emphasized that true peace anchored in Christ gives hope and direction. He urged Christians to embrace righteousness and prayed for Nigerian leaders to find solutions to the nation’s hardships.
He also commended Governor Mutfwang for his interventions in infrastructure and peacebuilding.
Plateau State Chief Judge, Justice David Mann, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for divine preservation of the judiciary in the past year and prayed for wisdom and protection for the Bench and Bar in the new legal year.
