Former Abia State governors, Orji Uzor Kalu and Theodore Orji, have convened a high-level strategic meeting in Umuahia to mobilize political forces aimed at unseating Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Friday, Senator Kalu said the gathering brought together political actors who held office in Abia State between 2009 and 2023, with the aim of forming a united political bloc to influence the state’s leadership trajectory.
He proposed expanding the coalition to include all former political office holders from the same period, emphasizing that their combined experience and contributions to Abia’s development should not be overlooked.
Kalu described the group, dubbed ‘The Team’, as having played a pivotal role in shaping the state during their respective tenures. Addressing critics who downplay the impact of previous administrations, he said:
“Leadership is a relay. I handed over to Senator T.A. Orji, who handed over to Okezie Ikpeazu. No single individual can claim we achieved nothing. If we did nothing, where would our people be today?”
He stressed that the coalition’s objective is clear and nonpartisan, asserting that political change must occur in Abia State in 2027. The platform is designed to cut across party lines, welcoming allies regardless of political affiliation.
