Alimosho Launches Community Nutrition Drive to Combat Child Malnutrition

Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State has launched a community-based nutrition programme aimed at tackling malnutrition among children aged 0–5 years.

The Executive Chairman of the council, Mr. Johnson Akinpelu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, describing the initiative as a timely and impactful response to critical child health challenges in the community.

According to Akinpelu, the programme is being implemented through a strategic partnership between the Health Emergency Initiative and the Nigerian Exchange Group.

He said the intervention would focus on vulnerable children and their caregivers within District I of the local council area.

“About 120 children and their caregivers are expected to benefit directly from the programme,” he said.

Akinpelu noted that malnutrition remains a major threat to child survival, growth and overall development, with long-term consequences for societal health and productivity if left unaddressed.

He added that the programme includes nutritional screening, nutrition support, caregiver education and referrals where necessary.

The chairman said the initiative reflects a proactive approach to early identification, prevention and effective management of malnutrition in the community.
