“Build One Nigeria”: NYSC DG Calls on Corps Members to Champion Unity and Enterprise

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to strengthen Nigeria’s unity by relating with one another as brothers and sisters, irrespective of ethnic, religious or cultural differences.

General Nafiu made the call while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja.

He encouraged the Corps Members to remain selfless, maximise the opportunities offered by the service year, build lasting friendships and establish relationships that would further promote national unity and integration.

“Here seated are future Governors, Senators, Members of State and National Assemblies, Presidents, Vice-Presidents and captains of industry, among others,” he said.

He also advised them not to waste the opportunity of the service year, noting that many Nigerians found their life partners through the NYSC scheme, while urging them to respect the culture and traditions of the people of Lagos State.

The NYSC boss further charged the Corps Members to prepare for life after service by acquiring at least one entrepreneurial skill during the orientation course, stressing that such skills would enable them to become self-employed and create jobs for others.

According to him, the Bank of Industry has set aside ₦2 billion as business loans for interested Corps Members. He added that other institutions, including Wema Bank, NNPC Foundation, Kudimata, Access Bank and Unity Bank, were also ready to provide business loans at minimal interest rates.

Earlier, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, told the Director-General that the Corps Members had shown commitment and readiness to serve the nation since their arrival at the orientation camp.

She also informed him that construction work was progressing steadily at the site of the state’s new NYSC Orientation Camp located at Agbowa, Ikorodu.
