Abuja Blackout as TCN Carries Out Planned Maintenance on Kukwaba Substation

Residents in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are currently experiencing a power outage following the commencement of planned maintenance works by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) disclosed that the blackout is a result of maintenance activities on transformers TR1 and TR2 at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, AEDC said the maintenance began on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, and is expected to be completed by 2:00 pm. The exercise, according to the company, is aimed at improving electricity supply and enhancing service reliability.

Areas affected by the outage include Wuye, Utako, CITEC Estate, Idu Industrial Area, Coca-Cola area, PESI, FMC, EFCC, Nile University, Zhidu Community, Fafu Estate and surrounding locations.

AEDC apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the planned maintenance, noting that the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure a more stable and improved power supply.
