The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for his official decoration by Bola Tinubu.
Disu, who was appointed Acting IGP on Tuesday, was until then an Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon. He arrived at Aso Rock in the company of his family members ahead of the ceremony marking his elevation to the nation’s highest police rank.
In line with the provisions of the Police Act, 2020, President Tinubu is expected to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police. Following this process, his nomination will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
The development follows the resignation of the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who reportedly stepped aside due to pressing family considerations.
President Tinubu had earlier received Egbetokun’s resignation and expressed profound appreciation for his decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large. The President commended his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture during his tenure.
The President expressed confidence that Disu’s extensive experience, operational depth, and proven leadership capacity will ensure steady and focused direction for the Nigeria Police Force at this critical period.
As required by law, the Nigeria Police Council meeting will precede the submission of Disu’s name to the Senate for confirmation as substantive Inspector-General of Police.
