Fubara Dissolves Rivers Cabinet, Assembly Awaits Fresh Commissioner Nominees

Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council and relieved all Special Advisers of their appointments in a sweeping government shake-up.

The governor also appointed Onwuka Nzeshi as his new Chief Press Secretary, while his former Chief Press Coordinator, Nelson Chukwudi, was dismissed without an official reason.

The cabinet dissolution was announced in a Government Special Announcement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday and circulated to journalists by the newly appointed spokesperson. Fubara directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over immediately to permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

The statement conveyed the governor’s appreciation to outgoing council members and wished them success in their future pursuits.

Sources indicate the development is linked to a recent peace deal brokered in Abuja by Bola Tinubu between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The intervention is said to be the third by the president to ease political tensions involving the governor, his estranged political ally, and members of the state legislature.

Following the dissolution, Fubara is expected to forward a new list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule for screening and confirmation.

It is understood that part of the political understanding with Wike may require the governor to include some loyalists of the previous administration in the new cabinet, with the possibility of reinstating certain former commissioners.
