INEC Confirms Readiness for 2027 Elections, Finalises Timetable Amid Electoral Act Delay

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it is ready for the 2027 general elections, despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.

INEC announced that it has finalised the election timetable and schedule of activities, underscoring its preparedness to conduct a smooth electoral process.

Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the commission has submitted its recommendations to the National Assembly but acknowledged that certain items in the schedule may be affected depending on when the amended Act is passed.

“For now, the commission has no choice but to rely on the subsisting Electoral Act for its planned activities,” he added.
