INEC Meeting: Wike-Led PDP Faction Takes Centre Stage After Court Verdict

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, alongside its National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, is currently participating in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.

The meeting is taking place at INEC’s headquarters, with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and chairmen of other registered political parties also in attendance, with Mohammed “PDP Chairman,” and Anyanwu “PDP National Secretary.”

This development follows a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday, January 30, which nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.

In the judgment, Justice Uche Agomoh barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The court held that the November convention was organised in clear violation of existing court orders, stressing that the PDP could not disregard judicial directives and still seek legal validation for actions taken in defiance of such orders.

Justice Agomoh ruled that the party could only operate under a caretaker committee until a valid and lawful national convention is conducted.

The Turaki-led faction had earlier approached the court seeking recognition of the November convention and validation of the NWC members elected during the exercise.

Following the court ruling and INEC’s apparent recognition at the consultative meeting, the Wike-aligned faction now appears to have assumed control of the PDP’s national operations.
