Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has openly criticized his squad following a 2-1 defeat to Girona FC in Monday’s LaLiga clash. Despite a goal from Pau Cubarsí that briefly gave the visitors hope, Girona’s resolute home performance proved decisive.
In his post-match interview, Flick admitted that Barcelona fell short of their usual standards, particularly in defensive organization and transitions.
“We defended very poorly, particularly during transitions. Our positioning was off, and we struggled to handle Girona’s attacking threats,” Flick said.
He added, “We needed better control of the game and fewer mistakes. In the first half, we created chances, but we must show more hunger and determination to win these matches. We did not play at our best, and I won’t make excuses, but improvement is necessary.”
The loss represents a setback for Barcelona, leaving them two points behind Real Madrid CF at the top of the league and intensifying pressure on Flick and his players as the LaLiga title race tightens.
Looking ahead, Barcelona will aim to recover in their next league fixture against Levante UD this weekend. Flick emphasized the importance of regrouping quickly and delivering a stronger performance if they are to remain serious contenders for the championship.
