Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command have intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed inside a cement-laden trailer along the Kano–Zaria Road.
According to a statement issued Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, the seizure took place on February 2, 2026, when officers attached to the Kiru Area Command acted on intelligence and surveillance.
The trailer, loaded with products from Dangote Cement, reportedly departed Obajana in Kogi State and was heading to Mubi, Adamawa State, when it was stopped. The driver has been arrested and remains in custody pending investigation.
State Commander D.Y. Lawal said the interception resulted from meticulous intelligence work and the dedication of officers. He noted that the drugs were hidden within legitimate cargo and were suspected to be intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period, stressing that traffickers would not be allowed to threaten public safety or community values.
The command added that, following directives from NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Buba Marwa, patrols and intelligence-driven operations across the state would be intensified. Investigations are ongoing to identify all collaborators linked to the shipment, with assurances that anyone found culpable will face prosecution.
The agency urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious drug-related activities to the nearest NDLEA office or through official channels, emphasizing that community cooperation remains vital to maintaining peace and public safety.
