Renowned Nigerian clergyman and philanthropist, Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has offered words of encouragement to music star Davido following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Speaking to his supporters, Odumeje described Davido as a “generational award,” stressing that the singer’s accomplishments go far beyond trophies and formal recognition.
“There is one of our brothers that I love so much. That is a very great musician, and that is Davido. You are already a generational award, awarded a lot of awards,” he said.
“There is no award that you will receive now that means anything. You have already been awarded any award you need. Your life is an award. Your step is an award.”
The cleric urged Davido not to be discouraged by the Grammy loss, advising him to remain focused and continue creating music that inspires and captivates the world.
“Don’t allow ordinary somebody to come and begin to use it to quench the fire of your joy. Go out and get more inspiration to shock the world with another new music. Don’t go where you are not accepted,” Odumeje stated.
He further cautioned the singer against allowing criticism to weaken him, noting that Davido had already attained global relevance.
“Be careful. You are already on top of the world. The world is the one that will come into you. Don’t allow people to demoralise you, demoralise your quality, and decentralise you, and make you weak,” he added.
At the 2026 Grammy Awards, South African singer Tyla clinched the Best African Music Performance award, beating Nigerian artistes Davido, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr in the category.
Despite the outcome, Odumeje maintained that Davido’s influence and legacy in the music industry remain intact, encouraging him to continue excelling on the global stage.
