The Ogun State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing school safety and youth discipline, pledging legislative support for the full implementation of a national Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
This assurance was given on Thursday, February 12, 2026, when a delegation from the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Ogun State Command, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Daisi Olusegun Victor Elemide, as part of ongoing advocacy engagements with key arms of the state government.
The visit forms part of the Command’s sustained efforts to deepen institutional collaboration and encourage the Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, to domesticate and operationalise the MoU signed between the Federal Government and the Peace Corps of Nigeria within the state’s governance and security framework.
Welcoming the delegation, Speaker Elemide urged the Command to formally submit its proposals and supporting documents to the Assembly. He explained that such submissions would enable lawmakers to initiate appropriate legislative processes, including the domestication of relevant national frameworks and the passage of a House Resolution to be transmitted to the Executive for consideration.
The Speaker reiterated the Assembly’s readiness to enact people-centred laws, particularly those addressing youth development, school safety, and discipline in secondary schools across the state. He stressed that effective collaboration between government institutions and credible community-based organisations remains vital to building secure, values-driven learning environments.
The Peace Corps delegation was led by the State Commandant of the Ogun State Command, Patriot Olufemi Aki, who briefed the Speaker on the Corps’ mandate and its proposals for supporting school safety and youth discipline initiatives statewide.
