Professor Yaqub Geidam Assumes Office as New Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, Unveils Strategic Agenda

Professor Yaqub Geidam has officially assumed office as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Gashua (FUG), Yobe State, unveiling an ambitious agenda aimed at consolidating existing achievements and repositioning the institution for academic excellence, research innovation, and infrastructural expansion, Dip Connect Online News reports.

The appointment of Geidam, a seasoned professor of Veterinary Medicine, was approved by the university’s Governing Council during a statutory meeting chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Ibrahim Usman. The decision followed a rigorous, merit-based selection process conducted in line with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and other relevant regulations.

During the handover ceremony held on Wednesday at the university’s 1,000-capacity lecture hall, Geidam expressed gratitude to the Governing Council and the university community for entrusting him with the leadership of the institution.

“I am grateful for the trust placed in me and fully aware of the responsibilities that come with this office. Together, we will build on the solid foundation already laid and move this university to greater heights,” he said.

The new Vice-Chancellor highlighted his key priorities, which include:

Strengthening academic standards across all faculties

Promoting research and innovation among staff and students

Enhancing staff welfare and professional development

Improving infrastructural facilities

Ensuring overall institutional growth

Professor Geidam brings over two decades of academic and administrative experience. Before his appointment, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Maiduguri and held multiple leadership roles, demonstrating a track record of excellence in higher education administration.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, expressed her gratitude to the university community for their support during her tenure and urged them to extend the same cooperation to her successor. She formally handed over the instruments of office, marking the official conclusion of her term.

The ceremony drew principal officers, members of management, deans, directors, heads of departments, staff, students, and other dignitaries, reflecting the significance of the leadership transition in the university’s history.
