Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring retired civil servants receive their pensions promptly, stressing that service to the state is valued even after officials leave office.
The assurance was contained in a statement shared on the governor’s X handle on Friday following a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, led by Nurudeen Ojora Adejiyan and Abeke Taire.
During the meeting, the governor commended the retirees for their years of dedication, describing them as individuals who played vital roles in the development of Lagos State. He noted that the government has consistently fulfilled its obligations by ensuring timely payment of pensions, guided by the principle that no retiree should be uncertain about receiving benefits after a lifetime of public service.
“Today, I received the leadership of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries… These are men and women who gave their best years to our state, and they deserve respect and dignity in retirement,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu added that Lagos remains proud of its record in meeting pension obligations, stressing that prompt payments are both a responsibility and a moral duty of government. While acknowledging that improvements can still be made, he maintained that the administration’s direction remains clear in prioritising the welfare of retirees.
The engagement highlights Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to sustain consistent welfare support for former public servants and ensure pension commitments are honoured without delay.
