NYSC Director-General Urges Young Graduates to Complete National Service and Invest in Nigeria’s Future

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned corps members against abandoning their national service, urging them instead to remain committed and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

General Nafiu gave the advice while addressing 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One corps members at orientation camps in Ogun and Oyo states. He commended the young graduates for responding to the call to national service and stressed that completing the programme is both a civic responsibility and a foundation for personal growth.

The NYSC chief also advised corps members to manage their finances prudently, noting that financial discipline would support them during their service year and beyond.

He further urged them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and to conduct themselves with integrity at all times.

“When you are posted to your place of primary assignment, respect the rules, be punctual, be resourceful and learn the culture of the organisation you are posted to,” Nafiu said.

Earlier, the Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, informed the Director-General that 3,341 corps members were registered at the camp, including 975 originally deployed to Lagos State. She noted that the corps members had displayed responsible behaviour and adjusted well to the regimented camp environment.

Nasamu added that camp officials were discharging their duties diligently and working with a high level of coordination.

In Oyo State, the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, reported that 3,068 registered corps members had demonstrated commendable character, participated actively in orientation activities and shown strong enthusiasm to contribute to national development across various sectors.

The NYSC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to instilling discipline, civic responsibility and national unity among young Nigerian graduates through the scheme.
