WAEC Launches Digital Certificate Service Across Five West African Countries

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially rolled out its Digital Certificate Services System, branded WAEC DigiCert, across its five member countries — Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar.

WAEC DigiCert is a mobile and web-based application designed to provide seamless digital access to certificates. The platform enables candidates and other stakeholders to access, request, confirm, and share certified digital versions of original WAEC certificates.

WAEC explained that the system also allows candidates to retrieve lost examination numbers, further simplifying access to essential academic records.

The Council assured users of the platform’s reliability, stating that the authenticity of certificates accessed through DigiCert is guaranteed. It further emphasised that the cost and convenience benefits for candidates and institutions are significant.

WAEC disclosed that the digital certificate platform had earlier undergone a successful pilot phase in Nigeria, where it received positive feedback from candidates and educational institutions both locally and internationally.

Encouraging widespread adoption, the Council urged stakeholders to utilise WAEC DigiCert in order to eliminate administrative delays and bottlenecks commonly associated with manual certificate issuance and collection processes.

However, WAEC clarified that the introduction of the digital platform does not replace the traditional printing and issuance of physical certificates, which will continue unaffected.

The Council added that the WAEC DigiCert mobile application is available for download via the App Store and Google Play Store for iOS and Android devices respectively, while additional information can be accessed through its official website and verified social media channels.

2025 Private Candidates’ Results Released

In a related development, WAEC also announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for private candidates.

Candidates have been advised to visit www.waecdirect.org to check and confirm their results before proceeding to the WAEC digital certificate portal at www.waec.org to access available digital certificate copies.
