Midnight Raid Sparks Panic at EKSU Hostels as Armed Robbers Target Students

Panic gripped students of Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado-Ekiti late Monday night after suspected gunmen launched a series of attacks on off-campus hostels, forcing residents to flee for safety.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants, armed and operating in groups, moved from one hostel to another, robbing students of valuables including mobile phones, laptops, and cash.

A student who raised the alarm via X (formerly Twitter), identified by the handle @yapperaholicc, described the incident as part of a troubling pattern of repeated attacks in the area. In a post made in the early hours of Tuesday, the student wrote: “Armed men are attacking students in their hostels in EKSU at midnight… We are supposed to be reading for our exams! It has been going on for three days now.”

The student further disclosed that the incident occurred in the Phase 2 area of the university community, amplifying concerns over growing insecurity around student residences.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, stated that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the attacks and is currently under investigation.

“A suspect has been arrested, and necessary measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence,” he said.

In response, students have called on the Ekiti State Government and security agencies to intensify patrols and strengthen protection across hostels and surrounding communities, especially as academic activities and examinations continue.

The incident has heightened concerns over student safety, with many urging swift and sustained intervention to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
