Police in Oyo State have arrested a 43-year-old man, Lateef Suleiman, for allegedly killing his 52-year-old elder brother, Mustapha Amidu, in the Sepeteri area under bizarre circumstances.
According to a statement by the Oyo Police Command spokesperson, DSP Alayande Olayinka, Suleiman attacked his brother after claiming that Amidu had shot him in a dream the previous night while he was asleep.
“Acting on this claim, the suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately,” DSP Olayinka said.
The incident was reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters, Sepeteri, by one Badmus Yunisa of Alegunlode Compound. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead by the attending medical doctor.
A police team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ago-Amodu Division, visited the scene and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.
“The suspect has since been arrested, has confessed to the crime, and is currently cooperating with investigators,” DSP Olayinka confirmed.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
“The Command assures the public that justice will be pursued diligently and in accordance with the law,” DSP Olayinka added.
