“You Can Keep Your Awards” — Lilian Afegbai Blasts AMVCA Snub Over ‘Idia’ Role

Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, has publicly expressed disappointment following her omission from the Best Supporting Actress category in the upcoming Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) nominations.

Afegbai, who gained widespread attention for her portrayal of Idia in To Kill a Monkey, a project by acclaimed filmmaker Kemi Adetiba, took to social media to voice her frustration over the snub.

In a strongly worded reaction, the actress dismissed the need for award recognition, asserting that her performance had already resonated widely with audiences.

“I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear nobody trended like Idia from To Kill a Monkey last year. You guys can eat your award. AMVCA SMH,” she wrote.

Her comments have since sparked conversations across social media, with fans and industry watchers debating the credibility of award selections and the growing influence of audience reception in determining standout performances.

The AMVCA remains one of Africa’s most prestigious platforms celebrating excellence in film and television, with this year’s nominations already generating buzz ahead of the ceremony.
