The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Zuru, has died while receiving medical treatment in Cairo, the state government confirmed on Tuesday.
Zuru, popularly known as Lifiddan Zuru, passed away on Monday evening. He represented the Zuru constituency and was regarded as a key political figure within the Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State at large.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Assembly, Murtala Diri described the late Speaker’s passing as a profound loss. He noted that Zuru’s death leaves a significant void not only in the state legislature but also among his constituents and across the broader political landscape of Nigeria.
Tributes have continued to pour in from political leaders, including Kabir Tukura, the federal lawmaker representing Zuru, Fakai, Sakaba, and Danko-Wasagu. Tukura described the late Speaker as an embodiment of kindness, generosity, and humility, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to the people he served.
“He was an obedient son of his soil and a committed representative of his people,” Tukura said, while extending condolences to Zuru’s family and the people of Kebbi State, particularly those in Zuru.
Details of burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in conjunction with the Kebbi State Government.
