Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has firmly dismissed speculation of a strained relationship with acclaimed filmmaker Funke Akindele, describing the reports as unfounded narratives amplified by social media.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Makinde stated unequivocally that no disagreement exists between him and Akindele, countering weeks of online conjecture suggesting a fallout.
“Nothing really happened between me and Madam Funke, and I’m not aware of any fallout,” he said, attributing the rumours to the tendency of digital platforms to manufacture stories without basis. “Social media likes to construct stories. They write their own script and then start looking for people to fit into the roles.”
The actor emphasized that his relationship with Akindele is rooted in a longstanding professional and personal connection that extends beyond public perception. According to him, the bond was never defined by online visibility and should not be interpreted through that lens.
“Our relationship didn’t start on social media, and it won’t end there,” he added.
Makinde also reflected on the nature of evolving relationships, noting that personal growth and shifting career paths can sometimes create the illusion of distance where none truly exists.
“Sometimes, as you grow and move from one level to another, some relationships may look like they’re lost in transit, but that’s not really the case,” he explained.
