Obasanjo Slams Tinubu Over Rising Insecurity, Questions Lawmakers’ Pay Powers

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the worsening state of insecurity across the country.

Speaking during an interview with News Central, Obasanjo stated that any government unable to protect the lives and property of its citizens has no justification to remain in power.

The former leader was reacting to the recent surge in insecurity nationwide, which has reportedly resulted in multiple deaths and the abduction of several individuals.

“Let me tell you, the government that cannot give security of life and property of its citizen has no right of existence,” he said.

Obasanjo also criticised members of the National Assembly of Nigeria over issues relating to lawmakers determining their own salaries and allowances.

“The elected members of our National Assembly have no right to fix their own salary and their own emolument,” he added. “It’s not in our constitution for them to do that. It’s the revenue mobilization and allocation commission that should do it,” he said.
