Terrorist Attack Claims Nigerian Army General in Borno Midnight Assault

Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly killed a senior Nigerian Army officer, Brigadier General O. O. Braimah, during a coordinated midnight on a military base in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The incident, which occurred late Wednesday night, targeted a military formation operated by the Joint Task Force in the insurgency-prone region of northeastern Nigeria.

Security analyst Brant Philip confirmed the development in a post on Thursday, noting that the attack led to significant destruction within the camp. According to him, “large fire sources were detected from inside the camp,” indicating heavy damage following the assault.

Philip further disclosed that Brigadier General Braimah, the Commanding Officer of the formation, was killed during the нападение, marking one of the highest-ranking military casualties in recent times. He added that the incident represents the most senior officer killed since the death of Brigadier General Uba in an ambush in Borno State in late 2025.

Local sources also reported multiple casualties during the coordinated attacks carried out in Benesheikh and nearby Pulka in Gwoza Local Government Area. Victims reportedly include civilians, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), security personnel, and several insurgents.

A resident of Benesheikh, Lawal Benesheikh, corroborated the development in a social media post, describing the attack as devastating. “Boko Haram has again succeeded in eliminating the commanding officer of Benesheikh. The insurgents stormed the military formation in large numbers,” he wrote, offering prayers for the fallen.
