Jennifer Odonwodo, widow of late Nollywood star JohnPaul Odonwodo, has shared an emotional tribute marking two years since the tragic death of her husband, recounting in painful detail the moment her life changed forever.
In a deeply personal post on Instagram on Friday, the mother of three described the phone call that confirmed the actor’s death as “the most devastating” she has ever received.
Reflecting on that day, Jennifer revealed she had been preparing for a photoshoot when the news came in. “This day two years ago, just after 3 p.m., I got the most devastating call of my life… Awele, the boat JP was on just capsized,” she wrote.
Despite the shock, she initially clung to hope. “My hands started shaking, but a part of me still believed it was a prank,” she added.
Her account grew even more harrowing as she described arriving at the scene. According to her, a large crowd had gathered, and in a moment she says she will never forget, she saw her husband’s lifeless body being transported.
“A black Hilux drove past me with my husband lying lifeless in its trunk, still wearing the same red shorts he left home in. I screamed ‘Jesussss’ a cry I’m sure echoed in heaven,” she recounted.
Jennifer also disclosed the severe emotional and physical toll the incident took on her. She was rushed to hospital after her blood pressure spiked dangerously high. “The doctor checked my BP it was over 210. I was immediately admitted,” she said.
Struggling to come to terms with the loss, she admitted she remained in denial for a long time. She recalled their final conversation, holding onto the simple normalcy of it. “How can someone who asked me to keep his jollof rice the night before be gone the next day?” she wrote.
Hope, she said, lingered until the moment reality became undeniable when pallbearers carried his casket in amid the sound of ceremonial gunfire.
Accompanied by videos of cherished family moments, Jennifer’s tribute also reflected resilience and faith. She expressed gratitude for the strength to carry on, noting that she and their children have been sustained by God’s grace.
“God is taking care of your children, your mother, and I. It hasn’t been easy, but He has been faithful,” she wrote.
She ended her tribute with a heartfelt farewell: “Continue to rest peacefully in God’s bosom, Swag King. We miss you so much.”
