A 14-year-old junior golfer, Malik Adams, has emerged champion of the maiden Golf Shop NG Tournament after outperforming more than 170 competitors at the Elephant Cement Golf Club, Dip Connect Online News reports.
Adams, a student of Technical College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, delivered an outstanding performance, playing off a 25 handicap to record a Net 61 (10-under-par) and a Gross 86, finishing six strokes ahead of his closest rival.
His winning round was marked by exceptional composure and consistency, as he recorded 16 pars and two birdies on holes 4 and 8, outclassing a competitive field that included experienced club players and seasoned amateurs.
The inaugural tournament, organised by Golf Shop NG Ltd, attracted over 180 registered participants and generated significant attention within the regional golfing community.
The ceremonial tee-off featured notable personalities, including Jagunmolu Akande Ọmọniyi, Oba Lukman Adebambo Salami, Adebayo Samsudeen Apelogun, Lambo Akanbi, Umar Bakare, and Adedeji Ẹsan.
Speaking at the prize presentation, Ẹsan praised the organisers for boosting the club’s profile and creating a platform that promotes both youth development and elite competition.
“We are delighted to witness this Golf Shop NG inaugural event. Mr. Kuti has brought a much-needed spotlight and glory to our club. We are fully committed and ready to host future editions of this tournament,” he said.
The tournament organiser, Mr Kuti, described the competition as a strategic initiative aimed at promoting grassroots golf development in Nigeria and nurturing emerging talents.
“We are excited with the turnout and support received. One of our key goals is to provide younger players with opportunities to showcase and improve their skills, and we are glad this is already becoming a reality,” he said.
He also commended the Local Organising Committee and corporate partners for their contributions to the success of the event.
Golf Shop NG Ltd, a golf accessories and equipment company based at the Elephant Cement Golf Club, noted that the tournament marks its entry into competitive event promotion, with plans to sustain the initiative to further develop the sport across Ogun State and beyond.
