ADC Faults Tinubu’s APC Primary Figures, Warns Against 2027 Electoral Manipulation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over claims that President Bola Tinubu polled 10.99 million votes during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries, describing the figure as suspicious and potentially linked to efforts to influence the 2027 general elections.

The party said such numbers should not be taken lightly, warning that they could lay the groundwork for electoral manipulation ahead of the next general election if not properly addressed.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC also criticised Tinubu’s recent remarks on opposition politicians, describing them as self-serving and lacking sensitivity. It further argued that it was ironic for such comments to come from a president whose administration it said had performed poorly in Nigeria’s democratic space.

The ADC added that it remains committed to conducting a transparent and inclusive process in choosing its presidential candidate, contrasting its approach with what it described as imposed decisions and manipulated consensus within other political parties.

Speaking in Abuja, Chairman of the party’s Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Ikechi Emenike, said the ADC is working to set a higher standard for internal democracy. He noted that all qualified aspirants are being given equal opportunity to present their vision and seek support from party members across the country.

He also pointed out that the party has strong contenders in Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-deen, adding that internal disagreements are a normal part of democratic politics and would not weaken the party’s unity or its preparations for the 2027 elections.
