The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified 47 aspirants seeking senatorial tickets ahead of its upcoming primaries, including notable figures such as former Bayelsa East Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and Rivers businessman-politician Tein Jack-Rich, after they failed to scale the party’s screening exercise.
In a statement issued on Monday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said the screening exercise was conducted by its screening committees in line with established guidelines and internal procedures.
The disqualifications cut across several states, with Bayelsa State recording three affected aspirants. These include Murray-Bruce and Senator Benson Agadaga, both barred from the Bayelsa East Senatorial District, as well as Donald Daunemigita, disqualified in Bayelsa West.
Rivers State recorded the highest number of disqualifications, with five aspirants failing screening in the Rivers West Senatorial District alone. Among them are Jack-Rich, Chief Dr. Tamunobaabo Wemike Danagogo, Oyukaye Flag Amachree, and Banigo Ipalibo, while Chief Barry Balera Mwara was disqualified from the Rivers South/East Senatorial District.
In Oyo State, five aspirants were also disqualified across the Central, North, and South districts. Those affected include Kolapoboye Kola Daisi and Ajimobi Wasiu Adegboyega from Oyo North.
Zamfara State recorded the highest single-state tally of disqualifications, with seven aspirants dropped across the Central, North, and West senatorial districts.
Other affected states include Adamawa, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, the Federal Capital Territory, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Taraba, and Yobe.
