Dwayne Johnson made a striking appearance at the 2026 Met Gala, stepping onto the red carpet in a black mohair tailcoat paired with a bow tie and a matching pleated skirt. He arrived hand-in-hand with his wife, Lauren Hashian, drawing significant attention for his bold fashion choice.
The outfit, custom-designed by Thom Browne, featured a tailcoat adorned with over 350 meters of hand-pleated silk ribbons arranged in what the designer described as a “skeletal composition.”
Speaking to journalists at the event, Johnson said the look left him feeling “great,” adding that it was partly inspired by Polynesian culture, where men traditionally wear garments such as lavalavas.
“First, [Thom Browne’s team] sent the illustrations over and asked, ‘Hey, is Dj going to be cool with this pleated skirt?’ And I was like, ‘Look, in our culture, Polynesian culture, we rock lavalavas, we rock skirts,’” Johnson explained. “The most masculine men, not that I’m one of them, but the most masculine men wear lavalavas and skirts.”
The actor’s appearance quickly became one of the standout fashion moments of the night, blending high fashion with cultural reference on one of the world’s most-watched red carpets
