Tinubu Administration Fully Funds 36,000 International Digital Training Licences Through Coursera Partnership
In a major step towards building a globally competitive workforce, the Federal Government has opened new digital opportunities for Nigerian youths through a fully funded initiative designed to equip them with globally relevant technology skills and internationally recognised certifications.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during the signing ceremony for the Digital Training Academy (DTA) programme held on the sidelines of the Education World Forum in London.
Dr. Alausa said the initiative reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youths with the skills required to compete and succeed in today’s rapidly evolving global digital economy.
According to the Minister, the Digital Training Academy is a strategic intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda focused on youth empowerment, innovation and human capital development.
“Digital skills are now essential for economic growth and global competitiveness. Through this initiative, the Federal Government is creating pathways for Nigerian youths to access world-class learning opportunities and compete confidently on the global stage,” he stated.
Through partnerships with Coursera and Pluralsight, participants will receive specialised training in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, cloud computing, software engineering and other high-demand technology fields.
Beneficiaries will also earn globally recognised certifications valued by employers worldwide, significantly improving their access to international career opportunities.
Dr. Alausa further revealed that the Federal Government has fully funded 36,000 training licences for Nigerian youths in the first phase of the programme, making the training accessible at no personal cost to participants. He described the initiative as one of the largest government-funded digital skills investments in Nigeria’s history.
To ensure nationwide accessibility and effective implementation, the programme will be delivered in collaboration with National Open University of Nigeria and Yaba College of Technology.
The Minister explained that NOUN’s nationwide presence would guarantee equal access for youths across all geopolitical zones, while YABATECH would provide technical expertise, facilitators and mentorship support throughout the programme.
“Access alone is not enough. Real impact comes from completion, guidance and accountability. That is why this programme has been structured to provide participants with the support needed to succeed,” he said.
Describing the initiative as a strong demonstration of the Tinubu administration’s investment in the future of Nigerian youths, Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding opportunities through education, innovation and digital transformation.
He also commended Coursera, Pluralsight, NOUN and YABATECH for partnering with the Federal Government to make the initiative a reality.
The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to expanding access to quality education and empowering Nigerian youths with the skills, knowledge and global exposure needed to thrive in the 21st-century economy.
