Veteran Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji is set to make a major comeback to the screen after nearly eight years away from acting, taking on a lead role in BBC Studios’ upcoming thriller series titled Wahala.
According to Dip Connect Online News, the award-winning actress last appeared on screen in the 2018 film Lionheart, which also marked her directorial debut.
The new project is a six-part drama adaptation of Wahala, a novel written by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Theresa Ikoko. The series is being produced by BBC Studios through its Firebird Pictures division and is expected to air on BBC One, as well as stream on BBC iPlayer.
The production boasts a strong ensemble cast featuring Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo, and Susan Wokoma.
The story, adapted from Wahala by author Nikki May, follows four Nigerian-British women living in London whose lives become entangled as long-buried secrets, strained friendships, and unsettling memories gradually surface.
Speaking on her return to acting, Nnaji expressed excitement about the project, describing it as both engaging and fulfilling.
“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.
