Mohammed Bello El-Rufai Dumps APC for ADC Ahead of 2027 Re-Election Bid

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

El-Rufai, who currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations, announced his defection through his social media handles on Thursday.

According to the lawmaker, his resignation letter from the APC was formally submitted and read during plenary by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, marking his official move to the ADC.

Speaking on his decision, El-Rufai stated:

“I am now a member of the ADC, and I will be seeking re-election to continue representing the good people of Kaduna North Federal Constituency on this platform.”

He further disclosed that two other Kaduna lawmakers also joined the ADC alongside him. They include Suleiman Richifa, representing Soba Federal Constituency, and Hon. Umar Ajilo, representing Makarfi/Kudan Federal Constituency.

Explaining the reason behind his move, El-Rufai said the decision was made after careful consideration.

“This decision was not taken lightly. As a proud son of Mallam Nasir, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best,” he said.

Reassuring his constituents of continued commitment to effective representation, the lawmaker added:

“To the people of Kaduna North: our work continues, and it will not stop. We will never compromise on delivering quality representation. There is still so much to do.”
