The Gombe State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Chinwe Nwachuku, has announced that two corps members serving in the state will have to repeat their service year, while two others were given a four-month extension due to service-related issues.
She made the disclosure on Thursday during the passing-out ceremony for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members held at the Gombe Local Government Secretariat, where hundreds of participants officially completed their national service.
According to her, a total of 901 corps members passed out in the state, comprising 503 males and 398 females. She added that while the majority successfully completed their service year, disciplinary measures were taken in line with NYSC regulations. “Two corps members are repeating service, while two others are having four months extension,” she said.
The event briefly took an unexpected turn when a stray cow wandered into the venue, causing a moment of panic among corps members seated under a tree. However, the situation was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were reported.
In her address, Nwachuku commended the outgoing corps members for their commitment to community development projects and their resilience throughout the service year. She described their journey as one marked by learning, challenges, and growth, noting that they had completed a significant national assignment with discipline and dedication.
She encouraged them to take advantage of the skills acquired under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become self-reliant. She also advised them to avoid night journeys and actions that could tarnish the image of the NYSC, before formally declaring the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II service year closed.
