Adejobi Condemns Attempts to Secure Freedom for Suspected Criminals

The Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Delta State, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has warned against mounting pressure on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to release, pardon or overlook suspected criminals.

In a post shared on his official X handle on Monday, the former Force Public Relations Officer described such interventions as unacceptable and counterproductive to efforts aimed at combating crime and maintaining public safety.

Adejobi stated that he remains committed to his principles in the fight against criminality, stressing that appeals on behalf of individuals accused of crimes would not influence his position or that of security agencies.

According to him, anyone who lobbies for the release of a criminal suspect or seeks to obstruct the course of justice is indirectly supporting criminal behaviour. He described such actions as shameful and warned that they undermine the rule of law.

The police officer called on security agencies and members of the public to remain united and resolute in the effort to curb crime and other social vices, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in safeguarding society.

His remarks come amid growing security concerns, including reports that terrorists have demanded the release of detained fighters in exchange for the freedom of an abducted retired Major General and school pupils kidnapped in Oyo State.
