Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has said he sometimes celebrates divorce, explaining that the end of a marriage can be a healthy decision when both partners are no longer happy or thriving in the relationship.
Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bovi said he does not support staying in an unhappy marriage, stressing that no one should endure suffering in the name of commitment. According to him, relationships should be a space where both individuals can breathe and grow, not feel trapped or unhappy.
He explained that in some cases, divorce simply means people have recognized that they are not compatible, adding that it is better to separate than remain in a situation that causes emotional distress. “I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or two people were not breathing well inside that space,” he said.
The comedian added that he would not want anyone to suffer in a relationship with him, just as he would not want to suffer in one. He emphasized mutual happiness as an important foundation for any marriage.
Bovi also reflected on his personal life, revealing that he got married at the age of 29 and has been in his marriage for 17 years. While he acknowledged the longevity of the union, he noted that it has not been an easy journey throughout.
According to him, despite the challenges, he has remained committed over the years, describing marriage as a long and demanding experience that requires effort, understanding and endurance from both partners.
