IKEJA ELECTRIC ANNOUNCES NEW ACTING CEO

Ikeja Electric has announced the appointment of Mrs Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, with effect from July 1, 2026. The appointment follows the transition of the current Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Folake Soetan, into a wider strategic role within the energy sector.

The electricity distribution company made the announcement in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie. The company explained that the leadership change is intended to strengthen its executive structure in order to accelerate growth, promote innovation, and enhance service delivery across the power sector value chain.

According to the statement, Soetan, who has led Ikeja Electric since 2020, will now assume expanded strategic responsibilities across Sahara’s power and upstream operations after overseeing major transformation at Ikeja Electric over the past six years.

The Chairman of Ikeja Electric, Kola Adesina, praised her tenure, describing it as highly impactful and transformational. He said her leadership helped reshape the organisation into a more resilient, customer-oriented, and performance-driven utility.

“Folake has been instrumental in transforming Ikeja Electric into a more resilient, customer-focused, and performance-driven organisation. Her leadership reflects innovation, resilience, and impact,” Adesina said.

The company noted that under her leadership, Ikeja Electric recorded notable improvements in operational efficiency, strengthened stakeholder trust, and was better positioned for sustainable growth within Nigeria’s evolving electricity market.

Reacting to her new role, Soetan expressed appreciation for her time at the company, saying it was a privilege to lead the organisation and work with a committed workforce focused on delivering value to customers and communities. She added that she looks forward to contributing to Sahara Group’s broader vision of providing sustainable and inclusive energy solutions across Africa.

Meanwhile, the board of Ikeja Electric said the appointment of Onyelucheya reflects strong confidence in her leadership strength, strategic vision, and proven ability to drive organisational transformation and sustainable performance.

Adesina further described her as a leader with a strong combination of experience, strategic clarity, and execution discipline, expressing confidence that she would build on existing achievements while advancing innovation, efficiency, and customer-focused growth.

“Ogochukwu brings a compelling blend of leadership experience, strategic clarity, and execution discipline. We are confident in her ability to build on the strong foundation established at Ikeja Electric while driving innovation, efficiency, and customer-centric growth. She has our full support as she leads the business into its next chapter,” he said.

According to the company, Onyelucheya is a seasoned corporate executive and financial expert with over 20 years of experience spanning banking and the energy sector, with strong expertise in business strategy, financial management, and operational development.

She is also known for leading large-scale business turnaround initiatives through digital transformation, process automation, and the implementation of revenue assurance systems aimed at improving efficiency and financial performance.

Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, a Master of Science degree in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London, and executive education at Harvard Business School.

Speaking on her appointment, Onyelucheya said she is committed to building on the company’s progress while strengthening customer service and operational efficiency.

“Taking on the responsibility of building on the strong foundation at Ikeja Electric is a privilege for the incredible IE team and me. Our focus remains on delivering improved service, deepening customer trust, and driving sustainable performance as we continue to create value for all stakeholders,” she said.

The chairman added that the leadership transition reflects Ikeja Electric’s commitment to continuity, operational excellence, and the delivery of reliable energy services that enhance customer experience, expand access to electricity, and support sustainable development.

He further noted that the company remains well-positioned to strengthen stakeholder confidence and continue delivering value to customers, employees, regulators, investors, and host communities.
