Zamfara Governor Rules Out Negotiation With Terrorists, Backs Security-Led Approach

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has declared that his administration will not negotiate with terrorists, insisting that insecurity in the state will be addressed through security operations and strategic interventions rather than peace deals with armed groups.

The governor made the position known while addressing growing concerns over persistent attacks in Zamfara and the government’s response to the worsening security situation affecting several communities.

He also reacted to calls for dialogue with bandits, particularly following reports that some community elders had attempted negotiations. Lawal maintained that such an approach was unacceptable and could undermine the authority of the state.

According to him, engaging terrorists in negotiations would send the wrong signal and suggest that criminal groups are stronger than the government. He reaffirmed his stance, saying he would not enter into any form of negotiation with armed groups operating in the state.

The governor stressed that although insecurity remains a serious challenge, his administration has not lost control of the situation. He added that the government would continue to confront the problem through firm security measures.

Lawal also commented on recent protests by residents along the Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road over rising insecurity, stating that citizens have the right to express their grievances. He said his government would listen to public concerns, address them where possible, and provide explanations where limitations exist, describing this as part of democratic governance.
