A large number of residents gathered around a leaking fuel tanker in Asaba, Delta State, to collect spilled petrol despite the serious risk of a fire or explosion.
The incident occurred around the City Gate area of the state capital after the tanker reportedly developed a leak, causing fuel to pour onto the road and attracting scores of people to the scene.
Videos circulating on X on Thursday showed men and women arriving with buckets, jerrycans and other containers as they hurried to scoop the leaking fuel from the tanker.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns about public safety, especially as similar fuel spill incidents involving tankers have led to fatal explosions in several parts of Nigeria in the past.
