A student of Osun State University, identified as Ademola, has recounted how she was allegedly assaulted after soldiers from the Army Depot, Osogbo, reportedly invaded halls of residence occupied by students of the institution.

Ademola, speaking in a video shared by OsunDefenderNG, said the incident happened while she was alone in her hostel room preparing a meal. She explained that she had earlier noticed soldiers around the area but believed the situation had subsided before they allegedly returned.

It would be recalled that on Monday evening, some soldiers from the Army Depot, Osogbo, reportedly stormed student hostels of Osun State University, assaulted several students, and seized more than 60 mobile phones alongside other electronic gadgets. There were also claims that some female students were stripped naked and forced to dance unclothed by the soldiers, who were said to have participated in the Army Depot passing-out parade held the previous Saturday.

Recounting her experience, Ademola said: “My name is Ademola…, a student of Osun State University. I was in my hostel room cooking when I noticed they (soldiers) were around. After a while everything died down. However, later, we started hearing noise again.

“They started pointing their touch light to my room and asked who was there and what we were doing. They then asked me to open the door, and I opened it.

“One of them asked how many of us were inside the room and I told him two. I also told him my roommate was not around.”

She further alleged that one of the soldiers became aggressive shortly after.

“Then, he pinned me to my bathroom door and told me I would like it. He also told me not to shout. I begged him.

“I tried to free myself and moved towards the door. When I got there, I told him to leave. He asked if I really wanted him to move out,” she said.

Ademola also alleged that another soldier entered the room during the incident.

“His colleague came in and told me to calm down, saying I would like it and that I should not shout.

“When they were about to leave, I shouted. After I shouted, they both went out and I used force to lock the door,” she added.

She said a fellow hostel resident later came to check on her after hearing the disturbance.

“After I closed the door, one of my hostel mates came to knock and check on me,” she said.

Following the incident, the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, announced on Tuesday that it had commenced an investigation into allegations of misconduct involving some of its personnel after receiving a petition from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D.

The Army stated that the investigation is aimed at establishing the facts surrounding the incident and assured that anyone found culpable would be made to face disciplinary action.
