The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has introduced the FMYD Youth Opportunities Content Challenge, an initiative designed to encourage young Nigerians to use their creativity and social media platforms to help fellow youths discover and access government-backed opportunities.
The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, announced the initiative on Wednesday as part of activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day, themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
Ayodele explained that the challenge would encourage young Nigerians to identify government opportunities available to them, understand how they work and creatively communicate the information to others who may benefit from them.
“We are not asking you to praise the Ministry; we are asking you to inform another young Nigerian,” the Minister said.
He added that full details concerning the challenge, including its guidelines, categories, timelines and prizes, would be released shortly.
According to the Minister, the theme of the 2026 International Youth Day aptly reflects the Nigerian experience, as young people come from different communities, cultures, educational backgrounds and personal circumstances but largely share similar aspirations for opportunities, success, innovation, peace and a prosperous future.
He noted that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had continued to translate these aspirations into concrete programmes and initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities and improving the wellbeing of young Nigerians.
Ayodele disclosed that 239,726 young Nigerians had so far acquired digital, employability and other practical skills through the Nigerian Youth Academy.
He further stated that the government was supporting young entrepreneurs through NiYA StartUp, while YouthCred was expanding access to credit for young Nigerians.
The Minister also highlighted the Youth Agricultural Land Trust Fund and the Presidential Metering Initiative as other programmes through which the government was creating opportunities and supporting young people.
He cited the Nigerian Youth Help Desk as another initiative designed to provide support to young Nigerians, while describing the ongoing reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as the first comprehensive reform of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago.
Ayodele explained that the various initiatives were intended to ensure that young Nigerians could “see, touch and feel” the impact of government programmes in their everyday lives.
The Minister congratulated Nigerian youths on the occasion of International Youth Day and urged them to take advantage of their creativity, digital skills and social media platforms to share useful information and connect other young Nigerians with opportunities that could improve their lives.
