The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, has been honoured with the 2026 National Ethics and Values Award for Ethical Public Service Leadership and Youth Development in recognition of her commitment to ethical leadership, integrity, accountability and excellence in public service.
The award was presented during a ceremony held at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, and chaired by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Honourable Steve Olushola Fatoba.
The event was organised under the theme: “Ethics in Action: Leadership, Integrity, Legacy Reflecting on Our Journey, Inspiring a Future Grounded in Accountability and Moral Courage.”
In her remarks, Dr. Keshinro dedicated the award to her late father, whom she described as a strong advocate for girl-child education. She also extended the recognition to the management staff of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, acknowledging their support and collective efforts towards the achievements recorded by the Ministry.
She expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, for his continued support, encouragement and confidence in her leadership.
The Permanent Secretary noted that values such as unity, justice, equity, tolerance, responsibility, diligence, integrity and mutual respect are fundamental to national development. She stressed that Nigeria's diversity should be regarded as a strength capable of promoting unity, rather than becoming a source of division.
According to her, “Integrity is who you are even when nobody else is looking at you.”
Dr. Keshinro further called on public servants to maintain professionalism, excellence and dedication in serving citizens. She emphasised that public officials must always place the national interest above personal considerations while carrying out their responsibilities.
Speaking on the role of young Nigerians, the Permanent Secretary described the nation's youths as change-makers and future leaders. She observed that young people are increasingly taking their rightful place in national development and making meaningful contributions to the advancement of the country.
She appreciated the National Orientation Agency, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and African Young Leaders for recognising her contributions, describing the award as both a privilege and an encouragement to continue supporting ethical leadership and committed service to the nation.
Earlier in his remarks, Honourable Fatoba explained that the award was established to recognise and celebrate individuals who demonstrate ethical leadership, integrity and commitment to national values.
He urged Nigerians, particularly public servants and leaders, to uphold integrity, accountability, transparency and moral courage in the performance of their duties.
Honourable Fatoba stressed that ethical leadership remains critical to building a responsible, united and prosperous Nigeria.
